Mission Statement
The Urban Land Preservation Fund (ULPFA), a nonprofit organization, preserves undeveloped parcels of land in heavily populated urban areas, specifically underprivileged or underserved communities. We work closely with individual communities and engage in environmental education regarding the importance of preservation. This contributes to sustainability of the projects and of a healthy environment. Our commitment to a comprehensive investment approach includes land purchases, green buildings, education and beautification in order to preserve rapidly depleting open spaces in the United States.
Vision Statement
ULPFA’s vision is unique in that it provides land conservation while ensuring the availability of green space for public use without building or permanent change on the land that is being conserved. This type of preservation enhances the education aspect of ULPFA’s work as environmental organizations and universities can use the space to conduct important research and preservation activities without harming the fastest depleting natural resource in the U.S. ULPFA’s vision includes a sustained, comprehensive educational component that includes education at the elementary, middle and secondary level. By committing to underserved, overcrowded urban areas, ULPFA not only acts as a conservation organization, but also works to increase the amount of open space available in such areas by setting up parks in crowded urban areas, creating facilities for outdoor education for youth and educating developers on the benefits and value of and methods necessary for green building. By balancing education, preservation/conservation and awareness, ULPFA will be able to increase the amount of free, green space available for public use. This goal is at the heart of ULPFA’s overarching vision.
Guiding Principles
To accomplish our mission and carry out our vision, ULPFA has established seven guiding principles that will remain at the heart of our work:
